I think you're right that we've not been doing a great job making plain what's been happening with SQL Monitor. I'm hoping that will change over the next few months as we put out a sequence of releases.
The first, due out next week, will allow you to build graphs with multiple metrics and will improve the alert emails. The next will allow better comparisons of metrics over time and probably introduce baselines. For each release we'll also seek to pick off some of the quicker items from UserVoice, rather than just focusing on the big items.
I know it's frustrating when suggestions appear to disappear into a black hole, but I do value and pay attention to them. Hopefully you'll soon see that reflected on the site and in the product.
Thanks,
David.

I'm sorry that we've not made any real progress on this since I posted last. I'd love to say it's firmly on the road-map, but the truth is I'm struggling to prioritise it over other work. If you look through our UserVoice suggestions you'll see it hasn't yet attracted much interest, at least compared to some other ideas: http://sqlmonitor.uservoice.com/forums/ ... ilters/top http://sqlmonitor.uservoice.com/forums/ ... -reporting
The suggestions list isn't the only thing we use to choose which features to implement, but I don't think we're likely to work on this issue in the first half of this year.
One of our developers wrote an article recently explaining a bit about the schema. I know that's a long way short of what you'd like to see, but hope that it might be useful: https://www.simple-talk.com/blogs/2013/ ... ta-part-1/

I'd like to add my thanks for the suggestion. It's something we've talked about internally a few times, and I agree that a set of versioned base views is the most pragmatic way to open up the reporting. We'd provide documentation and examples, and do our best to defend the views through schema changes.
Getting it done is a balance against the other requests we've received, so I'd echo James' suggestion that you add it to our UserVoice site. Feel free to encourage others on the forums to add their votes too.
David.

Sorry we've been slow in getting back to you, Brandon, and thanks for this feedback – I appreciate you taking the time to describe the problems you’re having and I’m sorry the storage issues are causing you such problems. I understand the implications for the cost of running SQL Monitor if you need to move away from SQL Server Express.
We’re currently working on the v2.3 release of SQL Monitor, and one of the features we’ll be adding is more control over the purge windows. Specifically, there will be a separate purge window for trace data, independent of the purge window for alerts. I’m hoping this will go some way to alleviate the problems you’re having. (Of course, the usual weasel words apply – until the release is out of the door I can’t promise this feature will happen in v2.3, but I’m not anticipating any problems.)
We’re also in the planning stages for SQL Monitor v3, and it’s likely that more sophisticated storage and purging options will be a part of that release. Your suggestion to span the storage across multiple databases is certainly a solution we’ll consider. / comments
