Here's how i'm planning on doing my documentation (i'm just now starting this):
Create my initial documentation on a version of the databaase either on my local machine or on dev
Copy the extended properties to dev/test
Any additional documentation will be made on the dev server and then copied up from there (done right before a version push to test) / comments

Well, i feel a little silly. I ended up finding the service. Apparently it failed because the service was running as my username, and i just recently changed my password. Changed the stored password and restarted the service and now everything's fine! / comments

This would be great because then i could open up the monitor to my supervisors/coworkers and not have to worry about them clearing out alerts. / comments
