New feature candidate: SQL Tab Magic available in BETA
Hello!
Here at Red Gate we’ve been working on a new feature for the next major release of SQL Prompt. It’s called SQL Tab Magic, and it improves tab management in SQL Server Management Studio. ...
Hey John,
We are actually working on the tab problem--seems pretty common--and it would be great to get your feedback on some of our early designs.
Would you be available for a short chat sometime soon or if you'd prefer, provide some feedback on our mock-ups via email? If so, drop me an email and we can figure out the details. It would be great to get your input.
Hope to hear from you...

Hi,
Thanks for posting to this forum and sharing your suggestion.
I agree that it would be useful to run the feature in this way but sadly due to the way it's currently implemented would not make this is a trivial addition.
Can I ask how you currently source control your .sql scripts? We might look at introducing these types of checks to our Source Control product.
In any case, I have made a note of your request and will look into doing this in the future should we rework this portion of the code base.
Please feel free to email me directly with any more suggestions.
All the best,

Hi,
Thanks for reporting this issue.
I've just checked and SQL Prompt always uses UTC as the default, like you predicted. Ideally, we'd detect the correct time zone or let you specify it in the options. This is the first time I've seen this reported as an issue. How much of a problem is this for you?

Hi Klaus,
Thanks for chasing this up.
Synonym support has not fallen off our radar--it's right in the center, along with support for XML. The problem is that they all require serious engineering effort--the last major rewrite took 12 months with a six person team. That said, there is a growing demand for these issues to be resolved so don't write them off just yet.
I'm hoping to put something in place this week to make it easier for users to give weight to these types of feature request and to make sure they don't get lost or scattered across multiple forums.
Cheers,

Hi,
Thanks for the post.
I think this was originally by design but it's a textbook case of software trying to be smart but not smart enough. We noticed users often typed the closing ' or ) regardless so we wanted to prevent inserting two, which makes sense when you write out statements in one pass but sometimes falls over when you then go back and want to make edits, as is often the case. I agree, this behaviour is annoying but unfortunately it was beyond the scope of this release, which focused on merging and retiring SQL Refactor.
