The issues we fixed were around combinations of keywords, where SQL Server 2014 worked slightly differently to previous releases:
BACKUP USER DATABASES WITH DIFFERENTIAL, FULLIFREQUIRED - the full backup was not being generating if it was required
BACKUP LOGS WITH FULLIFREQUIRED - was generating a wrong exit code
BACKUP WITH CHECKSUM, CONTINUEONERROR - this was returning the wrong error code, if there was an error
BACKUP ALL DATABASES - wasn't properly excluded snapshot databases
Hope this helps,

Hi Larisa,
Thanks for the follow-up post. FYI, we have a UserVoice feedback site, at https://sqlmonitor.uservoice.com/, which would be a great place to post your suggestions and see what reaction you get.
BTW, are you aware of the configuration options for Long Running Queries, which allow you to exclude queries by SQL process name, and/or exclude queries that contain SQL commands or objects, based on regex matching: does this help with any of your needs?

A quick comment on why we've not published the schema: it's nothing as nefarious as wanting to in some way protect SQL Monitor's value, but for the practical reason that it takes a lot of effort to manage a public schema, it introduces requirements like version controlling the schema (via public views) and can hamper future development (by introducing a restriction that we must try to ensure we don't break backwards compatibility).
We did publish a short series of SimpleTalk articles about the SQL Monitor schema (https://www.simple-talk.com/blogs/author/198217-chris-lambrou/). These haven't been updated for a while, but actually the schema has been fairly stable since these were written, so these articles should still be helpful in understanding the schema. I believe they will help you pull out some of the data you mention ('though query duration and SQL process fragments might be trickier).
Hope this helps,

Hi,
I'm afraid that Red Gate doesn't have an alternative product to recommend. I'm aware of one other 3rd party product in this space from ApexSQL; also, there are some undocumented functions in SQL Server that might help - here are a couple of articles on the web that might be of interest: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/Transaction+Logs/71415/ http://stanleyjohns.wordpress.com/2012/01/09/reading-the-transaction-log-using-fn_dblog-and-fn_dump_dblog/

Hi Mark,
Since I work for Red Gate, I'm naturally biased... [image] ... so I'm going to mostly leave this for others to comment on. However, I did want to at least comment on a couple of things:
Firstly, SQL Monitor does provide some support for Always On Availability Groups: this was added in v3.2.1 -- see the release notes here.
Pre-configured alerts: your comment's fair, but SQL Monitor’s Custom Metrics and Alerts functionality can address most if not all of these; and there are some pre-built Custom Metrics/Alerts that can be downloaded directly into SQL Monitor from our the Custom Metrics site (http://sqlmonitormetrics.red-gate.com/) that cover some of the alerts you’ve listed, as well as many others.

Hi goChris,
I can confirm that SQL Backup v7.6 supports Windows Server 2012 R2, and have updated the requirements page appropriately. We're currently testing SQL Server 2014 RTM, and will update the requirements page when this is complete.
Thanks,

Hi,
Just to confirm, SQL Monitor does not need to install anything on the machines / SQL Server instances that you are monitoring.
For more information on SQL Monitor installation, please see the documentation here: http://documentation.red-gate.com/display/SM4/Installing
