Hi Eddie Thanks for the reply. We updated the live box so both were running SQL SP2 and this has have fixed the problem so it looks like a service pack mismatch. thanks for your help. Gordon / comments

After reading some other posts here I realise that my first point is actually a case-sensitive issue - if I type the table name in the correct case I do get the column names in the drop down list. It would be good if this was case insensitive. cheers / comments
