i use non-operational (restore with norecovery), so it will be in restoring state? and won't be able to display the database structure, etc. and view the data ? But on sql server, if you use restore with norecovery, it will make the standby server dispaly as read-only state, is this a difference? thanks / comments

i use redgate backup a database, then restore it with the second option (on the step 3 recovery completion state): non - opertional, after restore, the database is in read-only state, and i am able to view the database completely when i check from sql server EM.
if i use command like this
restore database xxx from disk = 'n:\MSSQL\Backup\xxx.bak' with norecovery, replace.
we are still able to see the database is in read-only state, but if i ran the command you sent me, it is showing loading state.
why is that? / comments

actually the backup created on server a, then copy to server b (just as a storage location for the copies), then i try to restore it back to server a. I performed the restore on server a, then specify the location of the backup file (on server b), unfortunatly give me error: sql error 3013 reading fileset error, sql error 3241, the medai family on device is incorrectly formed. Why is that? Does it matter server a is sql 2005, while server b is sql 2000. but server b is just a file location, i think it has nothing to do with the version of sql server. why server a couldn't recognize it? thanks / comments

Hi Eddie,
Server A couldn't remain that many copies, so we copy the backup each day using Avamar to another location, yesterday i try to retrieve the backup which dated two weeks ago, so the analyst retreive that copy from avamar server and put in server B, (they are located in the same location), so this morning i try to restore the backup to server A and spcecify the file location on server B, got error. So you suspect the copy from Avamar to server B corrupted the file? Is that perform a checksum to find out? thanks / comments
