Well, it did look a bit like the southern Lebanon after it happened, but there was no reason for a timeout, as the Query Analyser was connecting with no issues. It connects once SQL Prompt is uninstalled! It happens on just one of the PCs which is completely patched up. etc. / comments

Bart, Of course you and Lionel are welcome to prod the old workhorse here. I might be able to pin the problem down a bit further in the meantime / comments

This is strange. When I cranked up the same machine that had the problem, after rebooting and having many fewer applications, the damned thing worked perfectly. I'm wondering if the bug is due to an obscure problem with memory or resources. I do all my development work on a slow old machine without much memory specifically to check for performance problems and it happened on this one.
I'll do a bit more fiddling: Uninstall everything. Load up lots of applications and try it again, Uninstall everything. Load it up immediatley after reboot, but my money is on a resource thing / comments

I got the same problem with SQL Compare v 8. It writes the file out when it does the comparison, and then tries to write it out again a second time, but aborts when it finds to its surprise that the file is already there. If you nick out the /synchronize switch it seems to work. / comments

I want to be able to drag an object from the Object Explorer into the search textbox, just like I do into the Query window. Right-click functionality would be ok if it was 'as well' rather than instead. / comments

A lot of us investigate databases using build scripts in text editors, and do complex searches using Regexes. However, I only do this rarely, and would be happy to forgo regex in SQL Search for the time being. I can always go back to the technique of using a text editor when I need to do something fancy. / comments
