David,
I am not sure that the dropdown box is being filled correctly.
I had 3 servers (1,2+3) in Object Explorer (OE) and when I opened SQLSearch it only had one (2) from last time it was started. I added a new server(4) to OE and it didnt show up, I disconnected from that server in OE and the dropdown box refreshed to show (2,3+4)!!
My PC really slows when SQL Search is open (indexing is yet to complete) so I cant really test this very much I'm afraid - CPU 98+% on ssms.exe

oooooh, does it? that's clever.
Oh yeah, its disabled if you dont have a connection to any servers...
Would it be possible to use a registered server group? Just thinking that I might want to work with them or find objects across my server(s) and then jump to them in the OE?
cheers

Yes, confirmed.
It (ssms.exe) pegs the CPU at 50% (actually 100% of one of my cores) and the SSMS UI hangs.
Not sure if its time the key is held or the number of rows that are moved in the object list .?

Hi, yes please!
Either allow column drag/drop in the UI or consider an order that is similar to the object hierarchy - database.schema.object
cheers

David, since installation none of my servers are yet indexed (ie they still say indexing ...) when I start SQL Search.
Have you any idea how long it might take to scan x objects? You could show a % complete and the option to finish current db and stop/continue/continue when cpu < 10% etc etc
I'd like it to complete or offer the option to finish the first scan in maybe 3 minutes, or possibly x minutes per database.
gaaah, "it depends"!

I agree, some idea of where the indexing has reached would be useful, maybe indicate which databases are indexed as they complete in the drop down list? eg dbname(not indexed yet) / comments

yeah, sorting by database ID isnt best!
glad someone got it logged

Brian,
On my SQL 2005 64bit servers I have the data locations stored as values in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.X\MSSQLServer\DefaultData
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.X\MSSQLServer\DefaultLog
where X is an integer relating to DB instance/SSRS instance/SSIS instance installed. the keys that you mentioned are blank
i have the same problem that restores try to default to the installation folder rather than my preferred location. / comments
