For some Redgate tools you can set the logging levels to verbose from the registry. This can be useful if you’re troubleshooting an issue that prevents the tool from opening.

Please note: the instructions in this article involve editing the registry. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Open the Registry Editor and navigate to:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Red Gate

You’ll then need to navigate to a specific key relevant to the tool you wish to set the log level for.

If these aren’t present you can create them.

 SQL Compare and Data Compare:

•  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Red Gate\SQL Tools UI\Logging

 SQL Data Generator:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Red Gate\SQL Data Generator 3\Logging

 SQL Dependency Viewer:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Red Gate\SQL Dependency Viewer 2\Logging

 SQL Multi Script:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Red Gate\SQL Multi Script 1\Logging  

Then edit the DWORD with the name Loglevel and assign the Hexadecimal value 7f (0x7F).

Again this can be created if it is not already present.

If you then open the relevant Redgate tool, verbose logs will be created.
