The Next button is disabled when no databases are selected as validation on the wizard. In this case (where you want to keep a job to be able to use the schedule in the future), it would be ideal to disable the job. This can be done within Management studio but not from within SQL Backup.
We already have this feature logged SB-3077, so I'll add your use case to the enhancement request.

Hi Toeho,
It's likely to be the SMTP host you have defined for the email settings.
If you select Tools -> Server Options, and select the server, you can then go to the Email Settings tab to check entry for the SMTP host.
To make sure an email can be sent successfully you can send a test email from this tab.
Apologies for the poor error message, it's already been logged to improve the error message.
